"Well here it is the day before I leave for Pearl Harbor...I think this will be the next to the last letter that you will receive from me from this time over seas...I went ashore this afternoon for a couple of hours. In doing so, I happened to run across an old buddy of mine that used to be on the Quincy. He is First Class at the present time. So we shot the breeze for about one half hour...Well take it easy old girl and keep your chin up. I'll be home soon. Everybody aboard this ship is very jolly at the present time. But I guess they have reason to be."
