2 July 1952

"I finally got the $100 off to the folks today....I sure would like to take a few days off from this job and go up to New York for a while. But I have to do what you say as your the one that is going to have the baby. And like you said, we don't want to lose this one if we can help it. I think that we will enjoy life much more if we have a little DAUGHTER to change the diapers on."

"I will have to pay $14.00 for a Schick Razor over there. I hated to spend the money....You know I told somebody about our going to New York and then I had a couple of people ask me to ride along. But you know what I told them, I said no because I wanted to be alone with my wife as much as possible the short time that we would be in Norfolk."

"I sent off for the reservations in the Hotel for the nite of the 19th of July. I really laid it on heavy, maybe they will lay out the gold carpet for us when we get in....Anyway, I will do the best that I can for you....At least I will be home with you every nite. That will be worth something don't you think."

Note: I recently received an email from a ship mate of Buss' during their time on the USS Quincy (1952). I want to thank Huffie Huffman for taking the time to write. This is what he wrote:
"your dad and I where great buddys on the quincy< his bunk was three away I was 17 at the time, so I called him gram mother gerdes Ill also say he was good sailor ithough the world of him"

"...I have written to the Lincoln Hotel for reservations....I asked them for Room 1918, that was the right room wasn't it? I gave them a long detailed story about me being over seas and just coming back to the states. Wouldn't that be something if they gave us a big suite of rooms."

"Oh babe, how I would like to be with you....Wednesday is, yes, you said it, my birthday....You still love me even if I am 100 years old, won't you dear. Like you say, we will do it till we are seventy....I think with your help I will be able to no matter how old I am."

"Most of the crew are on a picnic today. I can't see going on one of them. Most of the time when they come back they have black eyes and sore heads. So you can imagine what they go through when they are on a so called "picnic".

"Gee, just think, maybe next Feb. or March we might have an increase in the family. Wouldn't that be gorgeous....I sure do hope that you can carry the baby all the way through....I think that the time waiting will be worth every bit of it....I hope that I get some more mail from the "best little wife in the world" tomorrow. I must go to General Quarters again."
